Smart Farm Blue

Agri-extensions and farming applications

At Resilience, our core focus is on improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers by connecting them to better information through digitalisation. We accomplish this through a vast range of products and services tailored to both individual farmers and larger agricultural projects. Our tools, including mobile apps, provide farmers with real-time data, weather forecasts and market trends, empowering them to make informed decisions on crop management, soil health, pest control and climate-resilient farming. Additionally, we offer advanced solutions for seamless project monitoring and data management, enabling the collection and analysis of data for large groups of farmers. Our digital platform streamlines and visualises this data for thousands of farmers, offering an integrated, seamless system that simplifies farm and project data management, from field activities to reporting. In short, our products and services help farmers make informed, strategic decisions, ensuring impactful outcomes across the agricultural sector.

All our services and products are grounded in user-centred design methodologies, and we collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to efficiently and effectively address priorities and challenges. Moreover, through training programmes, workshops and demonstration plots, we equip farmers with practical skills and knowledge to enhance their farming practices. By fostering continuous learning and adaptation, our services contribute to the resilience and prosperity of rural communities, supporting food security and sustainable development.

Digital agriculture initiatives developed by Resilience B.V. and its spin-offs – SmartFarming B.V., IRIPO Lda. and SmartCane – have significantly impacted +50,000 direct users and contributed to improving their agricultural productivity, sustainability and community resilience.

Examples of applications by Resilience BV and our social enterprises include:

  • SmartFarming B.V. provides a range of digital agriculture services and human-centred design consultancy services. This includes developing apps – in collaboration with GIZ, ETC Consultants India Pvt Ltd, AFCi, Rainforest Alliance and Arvind Mills – that have provided real-time customised advice to +33,000 smallholder farmers in India, leading to considerable yield improvements in crops such as potatoes, coffee and cotton.

  • IRIPO Lda. focuses on two-way interactive voice response and SMS services to connect farmers to businesses and projects. The IRIPO-SMS service also provides support to over 12,000 farmers in relation to production, weather and market conditions, facilitating better engagement and informed decision-making.

  • SmartCane  specialises in remote sensing services for sugarcane growers, providing detailed analytics on crop health and growth patterns. The service uses satellite imagery to track plant growth and identify areas of stress within fields, providing farmers with information on how to use fertilisers more efficiently and adopt better crop management practices.

  • Resilience BV: Soil moisture sensors offer real-time insights and recommendations to farmers, helping them to optimise their crop yields and reduce diesel use through efficient water management.

  • Digital Watershed Monitoring Tool: Supports strategic planning by policy-makers in the Río Frío and Río Sevilla basins in Colombia, integrating agricultural, water monitoring and weather data for effective governance and communication.

  • SmartFarming Potato App: This app provides smallholder potato farmers in India with tailored spraying advice based on real-time weather conditions and crop health. An impact assessment showed that 78% of users adopted new practices because of the app.

  • We have developed a product called FMIS (Farm Management Information System), which leverages open-access resources to collect and visualize data. So far, through our  FMIS platform we have reached from over 80,000 farmers in India and 5,000 farmers in Mozambique. FMIS is crucial for large-scale projects, as it helps streamline Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) processes. Additionally, it plays an essential role in tracking product origin and monitoring the value chain over time, with applications in industries such as coffee and honey. FMIS ensures that operations meet sustainability standards, supporting impact assessments and operational efficiency. Our expertise in user-centered design (UCD) methodologies, combined with the use of open-access tools, has made FMIS a robust and adaptable solution for diverse agricultural and sustainability challenges.
